Hi all!
Is anyone watching them? Do you have any favorite sports? I personally like the ice figure skating. :) I honestly don't know much of how the Olympic sports are judged.. How they come to the scores etc. However, I do think it is interesting. I'm watching the opening ceramonies.
I don't really understand many of the Winter Olympic sports, but quite like watching them for how mad some of them are, E.G. like the one where they go down the mountain at 90 miles an hour on something that looks like a tea tray. We'll probably mainly watch the hockey. Our national broadcaster covers the Olympics fairly comprehensively TV-wise though there seems to be very little on the radio - maybe their reporters don't understand the sports much either!
Speaking as someone who used to have sight, I just don't get as much enjoyment out of the summer or winter olympics as I used to. Many of the sports, especially the moare artistic ones, such as figure skating and ski jumping in the winter games, and gymnastics and diving in the summer ones, just aren't enjoyable for me anymore since I can't see them. But the team sports and the ones based on speed are still fairly easy to follow.
I heard that ice hockey might no longer be a sport after this year's olympics. I guess the NHL doesn't like having to take a two-week break so all the players can go participate in the olympics.
Yep I've felt that about some of the artistic sports too, horse dancing is a bit the same from the summer games.
I like the summer ones better. I like to watch the Track and Field stuff, especially the distance running events. I've never watched the Winter Olympics though to be honest, and I'm not sure if they have Track and Field indoors there.
Ryan, track and field is just for summer games. However, in the winter games there are events such as different types of ski racing and speed skating. One of my favorite skiing events is called the biathlon. It's where athletes cross country ski for a certain number of meters and then stop and do target shooting and then go back to skiing. The first time they stop to shoot they have to lie down and take aim. After skiing for several more meters they stop to shoot again, this time from a standing position. I find this fascinating for some reason. I can't imagine the great physical shape they have to be in so they can ski for long distances and then slow their heart rate down and have steady hands for shooting and then get their heart rate up again for skiing and then again slowing all systems down to be steady while shooting.
wow blue, that sounds really neat!
I think one of the reasons I like the ice skating, for example, is I used to ice skate when I was a kid. I took lessons. I wasn't amazing like these guys but I really enjoyed it and it was really neat. I haven't been on the ice in years though!
I don't understand all the sports, but I do enjoy watching them. My favorite would have to be figure skating, mainly because of the music.
They had speed skating on today which was pretty cool. Pretty much anything that involves a high rate of speed will catch my attention. The one Becky mentioned sounds cool too.
I saw some of the speed skating or it may've been the skeeing lol
hockey! Hockey! Hockey!!!!!

i"ve never understood the sports. I like to watch them because of the music they play sometimes, lol!
dolce: you would like the figure skating stuff (I think that's what it is), and the skating that they do where two people have to do moves while skating. They play all sorts of music but most of it is Orchestra like.
Exactly! it's the figure scating I love how they also describe it, even though I can't follow or understand what's going on... ... Oops had a thought and it slipped... ah well
I know what you mean!
I remember watching them when I had eye site. I saw the ice skate or figure skating. not sure which one it was... They looked so beautiful.
That's so cool! :) Lucky!
